What is Solar Energy?

Solar energy is simply the radiant light and heat that is emitted by the sun. For a business, however, it represents a profound opportunity: the conversion of an endless, clean natural resource into reliable, commercially viable electricity that drives operational profitability and independence.

UK businesses face a perfect storm: electricity prices have increased by over 50% since 2021, grid capacity constraints are delaying site expansions by 12-18 months, and mandatory carbon reporting is pushing sustainability to the boardroom.

Commercial solar offers a solution to all three.

Our Solar Energy Solutions

Surveys and Design of PV Systems

We begin with a thorough understanding of your current energy usage and load profile to design a solar system that is precisely matched to your business’s needs, ensuring maximum efficiency and the highest Return on Investment (ROI).

Typical system sizes range from 50kWp for smaller commercial sites to 1MWp+ for industrial facilities, with most clients seeing annual savings of £15,000-£150,000 depending on scale.

Integration with Wider Energy Systems

We do not treat solar panels as a standalone solution. Our expertise lies in integrating PV systems with other energy technologies, such as:

  • Energy Storage Systems (BESS): To store excess solar generation for use during peak-demand hours or at night.

  • Smart Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure: To ensure that your fleet charging is powered by your own clean, solar energy.

By pairing solar with battery storage, our clients can increase self-consumption from 30-40% (solar only) to 70-90%, dramatically improving payback periods and providing backup power during outages.

Full System Installation

Prestige Power provides a complete installation service for commercial PV solutions.

This includes all necessary work to integrate the solar array safely and effectively into your HV/LV network.

Energy Reduction and Monitoring

Solar installation is part of Prestige Power’s broader “Energy Reductions and Cost Saving” initiatives.

This includes the continuous Recording and Monitoring of your network loading and power quality to ensure the solar system is performing optimally alongside other efficiency measures (like low-loss transformers).

Cut your electricity bills by 50-70% and achieve energy independence with solar PV systems engineered for commercial and industrial sites. Typical ROI in 6-9 years, with 25+ year system lifespan.

Prestige Power designs, installs, and integrates commercial solar PV systems, from rooftop arrays to large-scale ground mounts, ensuring maximum Return on Investment (ROI) and grid independence.

How Does Solar Energy Work?

Solar power systems operate by converting sunlight directly into usable electricity through the Photovoltaic (PV) Effect. The solar panels themselves are the primary asset, utilising multiple semiconductor cells (typically silicon) to capture photons from the sun.

When struck by sunlight, these cells generate a Direct Current (DC) of electricity. This raw power is then immediately fed into a critical component, the inverter. which transforms it into Alternating Current (AC), making it compatible with your business’s existing electrical infrastructure and the National Grid.

What are solar panels made of?

Solar panels are complex systems primarily composed of silicon photovoltaic cells, which are the engine that converts sunlight into DC electricity via the photovoltaic effect.

These fragile cells are protected by a layer of tempered glass on the front and sealed within an EVA film and durable backsheet to prevent moisture ingress. The entire assembly is structurally supported by a robust aluminium frame for secure mounting.

Finally, a junction box integrates the electrical wiring and safely manages the DC power flow before it is converted into usable AC electricity by the system’s inverters.
